Unlike Cuban, previous Rockets owner Leslie Alexander didn't want to spent one penny over salary cap to build a team around them. In one of the playoff games against Utah, only 4 Rockets players scored in the entire game.

I remember when they played Dallas in 05 and Diop and Dampier were KILLING him down low. He was nice to see because he was big as hell but very overrated and tmac's career would have been better off staying in Orlando

    carl hallcarl hall5 ай мурун
    • Dampier killing Yao down low? Yao vs Dampier career head to head :19.9 points to 6.4 points.Yao was never too slow to defend paint. Rockets was always a top defensive team when Yao's healthy. Yao was one of the best man to man defender in the paint, centers who didn't have an outside shot like Dwight Howard always got destroyed by Yao. Infact Yao was one of the most underrated players of all time. His impact on both ends of the floor are bigger than his regular stats shows. In advanced stats, his career PER is 24th all time in NBA, his win shares per 48 minutes is 23rd all time in NBA.

    • Because every foul means every perfect free throws, and fun fact, his free throw shooting percentage is 90%, he wouldn't miss majority, he'll just miss some. Teams have to be freaking scared when it comes to fouling Yao, many fouls= many free throws. Omeka Okafor is not even worth guarding Yao, he fouled out of the game.

    • Yao was the only center after Hakeem who played Shaq to a draw after his rookie year. Yao was slow but not soft once he beefed up in his 3rd year. As the years went on Shaq’s numbers dipped but those first couple of meetings I think Shaq had like 30pts 15rebs and came back and dropped 40pts on Yao. Shaq’s peak was so unfair. Yao was so huge and skilled like a mofo, but Shaq treated him like everybody else at that time, barbecue chicken. I don’t care if you were 9ft peak Shaq was going to take your lunch money.

    • Yao didn't start playing til much later, and the Chinese culture is civil and would never disrespect another player as opposed to Americans when it comes to basketball. Yao battled that upbringing. his rocket teammates had to let him know its okay to do that in the nba. if all things being equal, Yao would've busted Shaq every time. they called shaq the most dominate because he used brute force and lacked skill.

    • chacharu33 He may have earned Shaq’s respect but he got killed early on. Shaq dropped 31pts 13rebs to Yao’s 10 and 10 and Shaq dropped 40pts to Yao’s 6pts so having respect for a player doesn’t mean he didn’t get destroyed early on because he did those are facts.

      DaaBoys2138DaaBoys21385 ай мурун

They played 11 more games after , Yao won 6 time, grabbed 9 more total rebounds, Shaq won 5 time, score 8 more total points despite played a lot more minutes than Yao.
